I met these two bearded cuties at last Saturday’s Dog Day at the Egleston Farmers Market.
Dog: Satchel Paige is a soon to be two year old Wheaton Terrie. She also goes by Satch, Satchie, Satch My Scratch, The Satch, Satchquatch, Satch McGillicuddy….
Human: Satchel Paige lives with Ed, Jenn, Grace, and Harper (they all have nicknames too!) in the Forest Hills neighborhood. The humans have lived in J.P. for six years.
But the human in the picture is Jason Tucker, a good friend of Satchel and her family. Jason owns Reds Best Seafood Shop, and sells fresh seafood at local markets all around Boston. He was clearly delighted to be dog sitting for Satchel, while her family was away the weekend I met these two.
Does your J.P. Dog have any funny quirks, odd behaviors, or defining characteristics? “Tons! Her bark is more of a chewbacca growl. She is a champ when it comes to impersonating other animals. She sprints like a thoroughbred, prances like a gazelle, and when she gets wet (which is often!) she does a mean impersonation of a bull to which we say Toro! Toro!”
What do you love most about your J.P. Dog? “She’s pretty aloof and chill most of the time but she gets really excited when we come home and meeting people. There is something called the Wheaton Greetin’ and Satch definitely has it!”
Anything else you’d love to share about your J.P. Dog? “We live on a busy street so first thing in the morning we open the blinds so she can people watch…. It’s her favorite!”
Your J.P. Dog’s favorite outdoor spots in J.P.? “Arboretum! No contest!”
