About this J.P. Dog:

Spartacus, who goes by Sparky, is a 9 year old rescued beagle who came to his human via BONES Beagles. Sparky’s human trained him as a service dog. (Continue for two more delightful Sparky photos…)

Does your J.P. Dog have any funny quirks, odd behaviors, or defining characteristics?

He behaves perfectly, except, like all beagles, he cannot give up running off and stealing food.

Your J.P. Dog’s favorite outdoor spots in J.P.?

Sparky loves to play at Jamaica Pond with lots of dogs, including Lenny. (Ed. note: Lenny is the inspiration for starting this blog, and has made multiple appearances on JP Dogs!)

Anything else you’d like to share about your J.P. Dog?

The pictures in this post are from the 2012 annual report of Phinney’s Friends. (Ed. note: Phinney’s Friends is an amazing Boston area non-profit that is dedicated to preserving the animal-human bond in times of crisis.)

Sparky and I were clients of Phinney’s Friends for a few years. Before that, my dog Molly was a client of theirs. They helped me a lot, with money, dogwalkers, and dog food. Also Phinney’s Friends volunteers accompanied me to the vet and gave us beds and other supplies.

Sparky was featured in the 2012 Annual Report because that spring a large puppy jumped on him and broke his back. Phinney’s installed a ramp where I lived in Hyde Park, and he spent 6 months not allowed to jump at all, and recovered fully without surgery, as you can see from the pictures.
